Knitting

Knitting looks like brains and intestines to me. The organs that integrate and metabolise stuff. I find knitting  meditative and calming. I sit with the matter as I do in meditation.

In the past two decades knitting has become associated with things that at earlier times would seem absurd. How could this benign activity, activism, politics and ecology possibly fit in a sentence? Within the discourse of craftivism [http://craftivism.com/], its revealed how knitting as a activity became gendered along with spaces. During the industrial revolution what was once a master craft, became relegated to women's work and done in private, at home. It is argued that knitting in public, and knitting for things other than the functional has a political charge.
